He came in for a lunch time drink in the pub in Kilburn that I worked in.
He had a pint.
Of sherry.

I wasn't a big fan of The Pogues, but "Thousands Are Sailing" was a good song of theirs.

The irony about SM’s teeth is that his wife seemed to be making up for his lack of them.
She has a massive set of Horse teeth!

I know it wasn’t his song but Dirty Old Town is a classic.
Remember seeing him interviewed years ago and he was drinking PINTS of Pernod!

I read somewhere it was SM who recommended The Jam to one of the Polydor A&R men

Tbf he’s looked at Deaths door for much of his life so he’s done well to last as long as he did.
I always assumed McGowan & the Pogues were 100 percent Irish. Didn’t realise they were all from England albeit leaning into their Irish roots with the music.
Fairytale of New York is obviously a classic so even if you weren’t familiar with his other stuff and only took that into account he deserves a lot of credit for co writing that.
RIP

Never mind Fairytale of New York, as great as it is, Rum Sodomy & The Lash is a fucking monster of an album and well worth listening to in it's entirety. THAT is a legacy.
